This easy dog biscuit recipe is one of my “go to” dog treat recipes. You can make these homemade dog treats quickly using leftover stock and/or bacon drippings.
Ingredients:
2 1/2 c. whole wheat flour (regular, if your pup has allergies)
1/2 c. milk (skim, 2%, whole or powdered)
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 large egg, beaten
2 TBSP./Small amount of flavoring (bacon drippings, chicken or beef stock, juice from a can of tuna — your choice)
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and lightly spray or grease a cookie sheet. Lightly flour a surface to roll the dough out on.
2. In a medium bowl, mix together the dry ingredients.
3. Add the flavoring you selected and the beaten egg to the bowl and mix well. Note: This is a pretty stiff dough. If you find it to be too stiff to work with, just add a touch more of the chicken stock (or whatever else you’re using).
4. Roll out the dough to about a 1/4 inch thickness. Use a pizza cutter or a few different, bone-shaped cookie cutters to cut the dough into the desired size.
5. Bake for 30 minutes and let cool before treating your happy dog to its new favorite biscuits recipe!

I just used this recipe but had to add about 3/4 C. of liguid. Once I mixed your ingredients I had a bowl of floury stuff that could not be rolled out. That is why I hd to add lots of liquid. Did you leave something out?
Judy, good catch. Thank you! I forgot to add the liquid to the list!
So would you please share with us, the type and quantity of the liquid you forgot. I’d like to try making these. Also, will they harden up if left in the oven to cool? Thx.
@Sam — I forgot to include the 1/2 cup of milk! I’ve edited the recipe, so it’s good to go.
To get nice crunch on these dog biscuits, turn your oven off and let the treats cool in there overnight.
Couldn’t find WHEN to add the milk, so i just added it when I added the flavoring and egg.
I used unbleached flour, a farm raised egg (can buy them easily here), RBGH free milk and nitrite/nitrate free bacon grease. I had never felt so proud of something I made! And Shelbi went CRAZY for these. She absolutely loved them. Her reaction put milk bones to shame.
Thanks so much for posting such a fantastic recipe. My doggy loves them! =)
I made these with the oil from a can of tuna. One of my guys loved them immediately. The other didn’t enjoy them until they had been entombed in a container for 24 hours…I think the smell intensified. They’re easy to make, inexpensive, and my guys are still enjoying them, 6 days later.
Hi all
I just made these treats but substituted the flavouring or stock for half a tin of sardines in tomato sauce and some finely grated carrot. (We dont eat meat). Had to add a bit more liquid so just put in some water.
All cooked and approved by my dog
Dont forget fish for dogs too people
The recipe sounds fantastic. I can’t wait to make them. One question how long will these treats last after baking them?
We love these, but my human could not keep them available. Doubling the recipe and cut into bone shape helped a lot, as we think the humans in the house were eating the round ones stored in the fridge. Like the idea of letting them sit in the oven all night for crunch….the humans watch the talking box, we watch the cooking treats cool. BOL! Simon and rescued buddies.
Can I freeze these? They sound like something my Wheaten Terrier would love!
Sure thing! They freeze beautifully.
