Especially in the hotter months, fleas can be a big problem. Try making these. The garlic powder and yeast keeps the buggers away!
Ingredients:
3 cubes beef bouillon
1 1/2 c. boiling water
2 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. cornmeal
2/3 c. brewers’ yeast
2 tbsp garlic powder
2 egg yolksDirections:
Preheat your oven to 375 and grease your baking sheet..
In boiling water, dissolve the beef bouillon cubes.
In a lg. mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, yeast and garlic powder. Mix in the egg yolks. Mix in the “bouillon water”, a little at a time. Mix until it forms a stiff dough.
Lightly flour a place to roll out the dough. You want to roll it out to approximately a ¼” thickness. Cut into shapes with a cute cookie cutter (a pizza cutter works well, too!)
Place your raw treats on a cookie sheet, leaving them about an inch apart.
Bake for 20 min. When the time is up, turn off the oven and let the treats cool there. Hint: By leaving them in the cooled oven for anywhere from 3 hrs. to overnight, they’ll be able to get nice and hard and crispy..
Makes 36
Please note that it’s RAW garlic and onions that have been linked to hemolytic anemia in dogs. Both garlic powder and cooked garlic have not been shown to be toxic. I feed these to Sam and TRUST ME when I say that I wouldn’t give him anything that would hurt him!
