Rid-A-Flea Dog Treats

Especially in the hotter months, fleas can be a big problem.  Try making these homemade dog treats.  The garlic powder and yeast in this dog treat recipe keeps the buggers away!

Ingredients:

3 cubes beef bouillon
1 1/2 c. boiling water
2 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. cornmeal
2/3 c. brewers’ yeast
2 tbsp garlic powder
2 egg yolks

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 375 and grease your baking sheet..

In boiling water, dissolve the beef bouillon cubes.

In a lg. mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, yeast and garlic powder.  Mix in the egg yolks.  Mix in the “bouillon water”, a little at a time.  Mix until it forms a stiff dough.

Lightly flour a place to roll out the dough.  You want to roll it out to approximately a ¼” thickness.  Cut into shapes with a cute cookie cutter (a pizza cutter works well, too!)

Place your raw dog treats on a cookie sheet, leaving them about an inch apart.

Bake for 20 min.  When the time is up, turn off the oven and let the treats cool there.  Hint:  By leaving them in the cooled oven for anywhere from 3 hrs. to overnight, they’ll be able to get nice and hard and crispy.

Makes 36

*Please note that it’s RAW garlic and onions that have been linked to hemolytic anemia in dogs.  Both garlic powder and cooked garlic have not been shown to be toxic.  I feed these to Sam and TRUST ME when I say that I wouldn’t give him anything that would hurt him!

YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO GIVE YOUR DOG GARLIC!

Ummmm…. not to be rude but you can give garlic in small ammounts (like in homemade treats). Believe it or not it can actually be GOOD for them! A lot of dog food actually has garlic in it. So ya, if given in small amounts it is no big deal.

Lets not over react. Its not as toxic as you are lead to believe and it is RAW garlic that is toxic.

if garlic was bad for your dog many sites would not recommend it for keeping off fleas. As long as you know what you are doing with it and how much to add to stuff its safe. So lets calm down a bit. Just stear away from RAW garlic.

I have been giving my dogs and cats for years a natural daily supplement of brewers yeast with garlic and it works great. It’s a great method for keeping fleas away and it makes their coats look great. I have never had an issue with giving this supplement that contains garlic. My mother has used this method for years also and she has never had a problem. If I didn’t already use this supplement I defently would have tried this recipe out. I will however be making another recipe provided on here as I have made treats similar to it in the past. Great website.
