These are crunchy, healthy peanut butter dog biscuits that are sure to please even the most finicky of pooches. And they’re an easy dog treat recipe, too!
Ingredients:
1 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. spelt flour (if you don’t have it, use wheat flour in its place)
1 c. quick-cooking rolled oats
2 TBSP flax seeds
1-1/4 c. warm water
1/4 c. natural peanut butter
Directions:
First, you need to preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Next, mix up the flour, oats and flax seeds in a large mixing bowl.
Add the peanut butter and stir in the water.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface. You want to add in more flour, little by little, until the dough is no longer sticky.
Roll out the dough until it’s approximately 1/4″ thick. Here’s where you get to use those hydrant and bone-shaped, small cookie cutters! Or you can use your handy dandy pizza cutter to cut the dough into rectangles.
Bake for 20 minutes and then turn your oven off. By allowing them to cool in the oven, you’ll get crunchy biscuits!
Makes 24 dog biscuits
I hope your pup enjoys them!

There’s nothing that my guys like more than peanut butter. Could you please post more recipes with it. They love this one, but I’d love to try more. BTW, I use my ground flax and it works nicely.
Thanks.
I have made 4 different recipes from this site and my Huskies loved them. My only question is how long do the bones stay good? The peanut butter ones started to get moldy after about a week and a half in a sealed container on the counter. I wanted to send some out as gifts but and afraid they well go bad. Any suggestions on keeping them fresh longer?
Thanks so much!
Jennifer
I was just told by good friend to run them after they are bake through a dehydrator to make them last longer and they also get a little harder.
Hi Jennifer,
I’m so glad that your babies love them!
How to keep them fresh…hmm. Good question! Honestly? My chunky tuna of a dog has never let me keep a batch around for longer than a week. I have made “experimental” batches that I’ve put in the freezer for when my friends’ dogs visit, but without adding preservatives, I’m not sure how to send them out for gifts.
I’ll look into it and post it here. I’ll also send you an email with what I’ve come up with.
Giving them as gifts is a fantastic idea!
These are great! We’re clicker training our little husky boy so i make them very thin and very small and he loves them! It makes me feel better knowing he’s getting healthy treats I made him rather than store bought ones with preservatives and all that junk.
To keep them from molding longer, keep treats in an air tight container in the fridge or even the freezer.
very true- i left mine out and they molded very quickly. just leave out a few and freeze the rest.
I think more treats wth peanut butter would be good. My dog loves peanut butter but you should add something else to it like nuts or something.
we are making this recipe right now! hope it turns out good!!!
Well, well! These were a huge hit! I was dog-sitting this week, so I decided to make these for Montana, a Golden Retriever. I’ll be getting my own Welsh Corgi pup in a month, so I thought it would be a great way to test these! Not only did Montana LOVE them, so did my little Meyer’s Parrot, Tut! He can’t get to them fast enough! Both Montana and Tut ate ‘em up! I had to ration them , or they’d have gone through the entire batch! I may add more flax seed into a portion of the batch for Tut next time….he seemed to search for the seeds and relish them! Thanks for the recipe!
Putting a little cinnamon helps to keep them longer, plus it’s good for poochies. Also making sure they are good & dry & cool before putting in any containers.
