Dog Treats-Jerky For Dogs (And People, Too!)

Talk about good!  I make this jerky for Sam & I have it with him!  It’s so much cheaper than the store bought stuff, too.

Ingredients:

1 flank steak (approx. 1 1/2 – 2 lbs)
1/4 c. low-sodium soy sauce
2 tsp honey
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 150 degrees (or as low as it’ll go) and cover a couple of baking sheets with foil.

Cut the meat, with the grain, into thin strips (picture thickly cut bacon).  Cut the thin strips in half, lengthwise.  Cut those in half, widthwise.  Phew!  You’re done cutting now.  :)

In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, garlic powder and onion powder.  Stir.  Toss the meat strips in the marinade you just made.  Cover and let sit in the fridge for about an hour.

Spread the marinaded meat on the baking sheets in a single layer (no touching!).

Bake for 7 hours.

Store these yummy treats in the fridge.

*Please note that it’s RAW garlic and onions that have been linked to hemolytic anemia in dogs.  Both garlic powder and onion powder have not been shown to be toxic, especially in “seasoning amounts”.  I feed these to Sam and TRUST ME when I say that I wouldn’t give him anything that would hurt him!
